This is a challenging course that utilizes the entire area of the park. Runners will run a majority of this race in complete darkness on the existing earthen and grass hiking trails of the park. Runners can expect uneven surfaces, low visibility and several miles between self-serve hydration stations. Expect high humidity and heat indexes on race day. Runners NOT completing the 25K distance will receive a DNF. YOU CANNOT BUMP DOWN ONCE YOU START 25K RUN.
We do not recommend this race option for inexperienced runners. MUST have completed at least a previous half-marathon road or trail distance event.
The 10K course runs on entirely on earthen hiking trails and is an excellent challenge for the beginner to intermediate. Headlights recommended for 10K runners. 5K Run will run some earthen trails and tram road inside the park. Expect high heat indexes and humidity.
22K RUCK HIKE
The 22K Ruck Hike is a challenging 13.67 mile hike on the earthen trails while carrying a ruck sack (traditionally with 22 pounds). Participants can expect uneven surfaces, high humidity and complete darkness after sundown plus the additional challenge of carrying 22 pounds over the entire distance. Participants will be provided a chip for tracking purposes only. No place awards for this distance.
Parking for the event is located within the park boundaries. Cameron County Sheriff Department will be on site directing traffic. Please provide adequate time to arrive at the park.
The race routes will be 100% CUPLESS WHICH MEANS NO CUPS will be available on the race course. ALL runners MUST BRING their own water container (i.e. camelbak, handheld, water belt, etc.). Hydration stations will be set-up on the course approximately every 2-3 miles. All Runners are strongly urged to remain hydrated due to the high humidty and high heat index that is expected on the night of the event. All hydration stations are self-serve.
